The Challenge
With 100+ staff at their Tiverton site and a 24/7 shift pattern, Aston Manor wanted to adopt an Online Training Platform which provided uninterrupted access to all of the courses they required for their mandatory training requirements, along with additional titles to enable staff development and was able to comprehensively keep track of their training history to be audit ready.
With an initial focus on 8 core courses from the Traing4Academy Food Hygiene & Safety and Health & Safety Content Library to be completed across different Departments and Roles at site, the platform would then form part of staffs personal development and allow users to access Soft Skill Titles as well as higher level compliance related training courses.
"It was important for us to have access to a training platform that would benefit our site and staff directly in terms of having a blend of compliance and personal development training courses available and be available to them around the clock, as we run a continental shift pattern in several areas."
The Solution
Aston Manor opted to sign up to the Academy Training License (Enterprise) due to their diverse training requirements across the site. This meant that they were able to switch from paying per course to instead paying a fixed cost per annum for a set number of learners, no matter how many training courses were completed by the staff across the agreement period.
Aston Manor started by populating their Training Matrix with each Departments and Roles mandatory Training requirements in preparation for them launching the platform and allocating courses to staff. By using the Training & Compliance Matrix it allowed Neill and his team to have visibility on which users required which courses and how often – along with their current compliance percentage. In addition, it also meant that future users when added to the platform would be auto allocated to their mandatory courses based on their Department and Role – speeding up significantly the on-boarding process for new starters and removing admin for the L&D Team.
"The Training & Compliance Matrix on the platform helps us to demonstrate to our customers (especially at audits) that we are conducting ongoing compliance training across the site and that training has been refreshed at the appropriate intervals. The colour coding and percentage breakdowns helps us to pin point which departments, roles or users are coming up for training refreshers in advance of their certificates expiring, which means we can get ahead of that well in advance and ensure resource is available".
The Result
Neill and his team were able to launch the platform within just one week of signing up with Train4Academy and have now delivered over 1,000 compliance related training courses online in less than 24 months – an average of over 5 courses per user, per year – which doesn’t include additional courses for personal development.
Once the team had made good progress on the mandatory training requirements attentions turned to staffs personal development which has seen courses such as Leadership Training, Communication Training and higher level courses such as TACCP & VACCP and Internal Auditing & Root Cause Analysis.
Moving forwards, due to the success of the platform at the Tiverton site, Aston Manor have this year expanded their agreement and the platform will now be rolled out to three other sites and mean total users will grow to over 300 across the group.
Our collaboration with Train4Academy has been a great success for our training and skills base across the site. The nature of the platform allows training and learning to take place 24 hrs a day. The platform has improved our evidence of training during customer and BRCGS audits helping us to repeat gaining the highest-level AA* at our BRC audit. We are rolling out the platform to all sites which will triple our access and use, and we look forward to further success and collaboration with Train4Academy in the future.
