This COMAH Training course explores the regulations for storing or handling highly dangerous substances and how a site can take preventive steps to prevent major accidents.

When sites or establishments are known to house dangerous substances covered by the Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) regulations, a General Duties Operator is responsible for undertaking all necessary actions and measures to prevent large-scale accidents, thereby limiting consequences for employees, the general public, and the surrounding environment. The training course examines the differences between Upper Tier and Lower Tier sites, each carrying its own risks; processing significant quantities of hazardous substances categorizes a site as Upper Tier. Understanding these differences allows the designated operator to implement the correct Safety Management Systems (SMS).

The online training also discusses the role of the Competent Authority (CA), which has the legal power to oversee and enforce regulations and standards. The CA provides oversight, approves protocols established by sites, offers guidance and support, and importantly, issues fines or can shut down organisations if procedures are not compliant. These aspects are all covered in the COMAH Training course.
